Voters Weigh In for Connecticut Magazine’s Annual Best Restaurants’ Edition 2020

MYSTIC, Conn. – [January 8, 2020] – Readers have spoken. The IRONS Restaurant & Bar at Hilton Mystic has been named “Best Hotel Bar” in New London County by Connecticut Magazine’s Annual Best Restaurants’ Edition.

The IRONS, which features modern regional American fare, craft beers and eclectic whiskeys, placed first alongside The Engine Room for Best American, Best Burger and Best Late-Night Restaurant.

A destination renowned for innovative dishes and drinks, The IRONS serves locally sourced foods, award-winning chowder and a robust schedule of weekly live, local entertainment, including a free annual outdoor summer concert series.

In addition to live music Thursday through Saturday, weekly happenings include Prime Rib Monday, Build Your Own Pasta Night on Wednesday, Date Night In The Heart of Mystic on Thursday, and Sunday Funday Football.

The vibrant gastropub pays tribute to Mystic’s renowned Irons & Grinnell Shipbuilders of yore. The restaurant incorporates reclaimed shiplap, floor planks, brick, iron and canvas in its redesign. Guests gather around the central rectangular bar and in an open-air courtyard with gas-flamed fire pits, striped sofa seating and color-changing rope lighting.

The cocktail menu includes Mystic-al names, as well as two dozen beers on tap, and an emphasis on whiskey, bourbon and scotch.

Chef Jamey Hence, with more than 30 years in the restaurant and hospitality industry, enjoys exploring new ideas and introducing multicultural, interactive and playful cuisine.

Seafood is one of Hence’s favorites to prepare, perfectly in line with some of the most popular dishes on The IRONS’ menu. In his spare time, Chef Hence researches seasonal ingredients and new culinary techniques, like molecular gastronomy and mushroom foraging.
